Cedar Gap Farm (Hutto’s).  If you want to eat, bring your own brown bag.  Drinks will be furnished.  Anyone with a big heart and warm oven is invited to bring a dessert to share with everyone!!!  We will have election of officers for 2011-2012.  If you have done any interesting birding since we last met, be ready to share where you went and what you saw.

Saturday, May 21, 2011 – the Maddin Prairie Preserve.  We will leave from the What-a-burger on North 1st and Pioneer at 7:00am.  Come early if you wish to eat breakfast.  Be sure to bring snacks and water.  We will probably stop for lunch on the way home.

FYI

BCAS birders might keep eyes skyward over the next few days around sunset.  From my south Abilene backyard yesterday I observed an overhead flock of 20-25 Yellow-headed Blackbirds, flying west northwest from the general direction of Kirby Lake.  This evening I saw a larger flock (40-50 birds), on a similar flight path.

Also had two MacGillivray’s Warblers foraging in my backyard yesterday evening.

Regular Meeting – Thursday, April 7, 2011 – 7:00pm at Rose Park Senior Center.  Program will be presented by Laura Holbrook on the World Birding Center or the video “Ghost Bird” about the Ivory-billed Woodpecker.

Membership Potluck – Thursday, May 5, 2011 – 6:00pm at Cedar Gap Farms.  We will provide brisket, tea and water, you bring your favorite covered dish.

Board Meeting – Tuesday, May 10, 2010 – 7:00pm at Mezamiz Coffee Shop.  Come earlier if you wish to enjoy one of there delicious sandwiches.

Field Trip – Saturday, May 14 or 21, 2011 – We have be invited: Native Prairies Association of Texas is looking for help with a breeding bird survey on our Maddin Prairie Preserve to be held on either May 14 or 21–still working on dates.  Watch the website for more info.

  • Thursday, April 1, 2010 – Membership meeting 7:00pm at the Rose Park Senior Center. Park Administrator Okie Okerstrom or another staff member will treat us to a presentation on the importance of Abilene State Park to the surrounding communities.
    • Fri & Sat, April 9- 10, 2010 – Field trip to Ft. Hood. This will be an overnight trip, please RSVP by April 5th in order to reserve a room and know how many HIGH CLEARANCE vehicles will be needed. If you have a high clearance vehicle (4X4 is good but not required) and will be able bring it please RSVP with that info. We will expect to depart by 5pm on the 9th. Look forward to this good trip! Target birds will be the Golden-cheeked Warbler and Black-capped Vireo. Please call the hotline too.
    • Thursday, April 15, 2010 – Audubon Lecture Series – Dr. Tom Lee, Biology Professor at ACU will give a presentation at 6pm at the Grace Museum as the Audubon Exhibit continues.
    • Thursday, May 6, 2010 – Our annual Spring Fling will be at the Cedar Gap Farms Birdhouse at 6:30pm. Come earlier if you wish to bird. This will be a potluck, so sign-up for a couple dishes at the April 1st meeting. BCAS will provide brisket. Target bird will be the Painted Bunting.
