I threw this photo in for comparison between our two wrens in the Big Country. If I were painting a Bewick's, I'd start with brown and add some gray to it. If I were painting a Carolina's, I'd add orange/red to the brown. The differences are subtle but the voices are totally different. But wait, not all reddish-brown eastern wrens are Carolina. Some reddish-brown eastern wrens are Bewick's! These eastern Bewick's lack the buffy-colored breast of a Carolina's. Just another subtly that keeps us birders on our toes. (c)LgPacker
