Heidi's neighbor flushed this Common Poorwill from some shrubs in his yard and its flight was feeble. Poorwills are just coming out of torpor now and tend to be groggy. Heidi took the bird to rehab for an overnight stay to fatten him up and keep him safe while he recovered from his nap. This was when the temperatures dropped in the 30s, forcing insect eating birds to cut back on calorie intake. See closeup, next photo, for its eye & beak. © HT
