Yellow Warbler

Also seen this week were numerous Yellow Warblers. Their Latin name is Dendroica petechia. A petechia is a small purplish spot on the skin or a mucous membrane, caused by a minute hemorrhage. Whoever gave this species its name thought the bird looked like it was bleeding. (c)LgPacker
