Rufous Hummingbird

Beautiful adult male, photographed at a private resident in the Buffalo Gap area. Notice the totally rufous (orange) back, tail, belly, and head. The gorget (throat color) appears to be black but this is because their feathers lay flat and are not reflecting light. A hummer can fluff out his gorget to reflect light and the result is breathtaking as you will see in the next photo. © Jay Capra
