Public Meeting

On Thursday, February 2, 2006, Kathy Hampton and Laura Packer will show pictures and talk about their recent trip to Northeast Mexico.


We will meet at 7 p.m. at the Rose Park Center, Room A. Refreshments will be served. The tropical areas of Mexico are home to many beautiful and unusual birds such as the Boat-billed Heron pictured above.

Rufous Hummingbird Overwinters in NE Abilene

A sub-adult male Rufous Hummingbird showed up in Abilene September 15, 2005 in a NE Abilene neighborhood. He stayed for over three months and was last seen January 7, 2006. Jones County Trip List

Burrowing OwlJan 2, 2006: Four members went birding Monday, January 2, in Jones County. Highlights of our trip included a Burrowing Owl, Lark Buntings, and Brewer’s Blackbirds.

At Lake Hamlin we saw Sora, Marsh Wren, Swamp Sparrow, Song Sparrow, and Common Yellowthroat. A Golden-crowned Kinglet was discovered at Johnson Park around Lake Fort Phantom. BCAS to Build Bird Blind at Abilene State Park
